BEAR BREAD

Bearbread or "Conks" are tree fungi that grow well in S.E. Alaska. Many artists paint creations on the face of bearbread and artist Dawn Teune has taken it a step further. After trimming and drying the conk, she paints an Alaskan Christmas design and finishes the bearbread with a bow and hanger. Voila! An Alaskan Christmas ornament. Thousands of Dawn's ornaments have been sold to visitors from around the world and are hanging on their Christmas trees in December. They are sold in stores throughout Southeast Alaska and have even hung in a display at the Smithsonian.
